About this site
What is this site about?
This is meant to serve as a personal blogging platform, as well as a virtual resumé. I will blog mostly about industrial automation : programming, process control, all that good stuff. There will be other related subjects also. Possibly a fair about of griping - after all we PLC guys aren't known for our jolly natures. :^)
What can I expect to find here?
- Anecdotes. Some stories about things that go right, many more about things that go horrifically wrong, simply because I've got more of these.
- Ridiculous experiments. They sometimes have a didactic purpose, but more often they have none beyond simple curiosity or amusement.
- Projects. Sometimes I get off my lazy bum, stop whining and do something of value. Such projects may be showcased on the website.
If you're not interested in industrial automation though, I don't think this website will be very interesting.
Why is it so ugly?
There are a few reasons for the dubious aesthetics :
- ISA-101 compliance. It actually faithfully follows the colour palette proposed by the Rockwell white paper on high performance HMI design. The overall tones are meant to be muted and the use of flashy colours, limited to things that need to grab the user's attention. Because nothing here needs to grab anybody's attention, there isn't that much colour.
- Personal aesthetics. There isn't much dynamic content on this website - nothing beyond the few facilities CSS provides. No JavaScript at all is involved. It reminds me a bit of the Internet of my youth, before we got all fancy-schmancy with front-end stuff. I'm kinda nostalgic about that time, so I've crafted my website accordingly.
- Skill issue. I am not good at front-end stuff. Man, I'm a controls guy. Have you ever seen a machine HMI?
